Read your propeller's stamp.
Every propeller carries its vital statistics stamped on the hub — a code like ‘16 × 10 RH’. Type yours in and get the plain-English readout, plus the important part: what those numbers don't tell you.
Where to look
On the side of the hub (boss), sometimes under the paint or growth — a wire brush helps. Shaft props usually stamp diameter × pitch in inches plus rotation; saildrive props may add the spline or drive model.
Why the stamp is only half the story
Two propellers stamped identically can perform completely differently. Blade area, section camber, skew and pitch distribution never appear on the hub — and they're where design quality actually lives. It's why sizing by numbers beats matching the old stamp, and why replacing "like for like" repeats the original compromise.
Replacing a worn or damaged wheel? Photograph the stamp and the blades and send them with your enquiry — with the engine and gearbox numbers, that's a complete sizing file.
